Two-thirds of the country is hilly or mountainous, which means arable land comprises only 22% of the countrys land area. Agriculture as a whole contributes 2.34% to South Korea’s GDP and employs 7% of the country’s workforce.
Rice is the most important crop here, accounting for about 90% of the country’s total grain production and over 40% of farm income. Barley, soybeans and potatoes are the other major broad acre crops. Fruit, particularly citrus, and vegetables are also widely grown.
