Fifty per cent of French land is used for agriculture, making it one of the EU’s major agricultural powers and a major player in agricultural exports. There are nearly 750,000 farms in France and agriculture accounts for around 6 per cent of the country’s workforce.

France is the EU’s largest cereals producer, accounting for one quarter of the EU’s total, the largest producer of sugar beet, and leads Europe in potato production. Total agricultural output is €70.4bn.
